Introduction
There is no universally accepted definition of strategy, but we can create some clarity by pointing out that it pertains to whatever a business entity is doing to prepare for its activities of value creation, resulting in satisfied clients. From this understanding of strategy, it is best to treat the term as a cathphrase for a whole range of activities and issues. One reason to choose this approach comes from the growing realization that strategy is far more compex than mere planning; however, complicated the planning may be. Various actors and issues have influences on what may be called strategy, on wich the organization has only limited, and typically temporary, controll.
For the sake of this course, strategy is divided into: strategy content, strategy process and strategt context.
What we call strategy content consists of the combined decisions and choices that lead a company into the future. One could say that strategy content is concerned with the “what” of strategy: what is, and should be, the strategy of a company en its units.
What we call strategy process is about the way strategies come about. Thus, it is concerned with the “how”, the “who” and the “when” of strategy. It looks into how strategy comes to be, how it develops and how it is connected to change programs and innovation.
What we call strategy context is about the set of circumstances under which the strategy content and the strategy process come to be. This is more a matter of the “where” of strategy, as it is focused on the environment of the organization and other factors outside of its domain.
This course is divided according to those three domains, while it does pay attention to their interconnections. After all, strategy is more and more a systemic phenomenon.
Master degree
This course is one part of the total Master of Business Programme. In the last segment of this course you may select other courses which, if combined properly, will alow you to meet the qualifications for the start of your Master thesis research.

Prerequisites
You don't need a special education to follow this training. This course can be followed independent of other MBA modules which we provide. A minimum of eight modules is needed to proceed to the Master research phase. It is recommended that you choose this course on the basis of several years as a professional.
Duration
The duration depends on existing knowledge of each student and your method of study. You need time to study the mandatory literature and writing your thesis. In general, a student should be able to finish each module in about two or three months.
