Introduction
The course is built from the central question: How can I better understand my international business partners and colleagues and reconcile the differences between them?
Fons Trompenaars and Charles Hampden-Turner have enriched the body of knowledge about the link between corporate and national culture by using many of the theories that are discussed in this course to identify dimensions in culture that represent differences in value. The seven dimensions model, put forward in Riding the Waves of Culture (first published in 1993), looks at seven value differences, or dimensions, which help explain national cultural differences in society and how they affect business and management.
Basic cultural assumptions often impact the way people behave and interact with each other. The model provides a framework for identifying the series of implicit values and norms that a society has developed to deal with the regular problems that it faces.
In principle, everyone in the world values both sides of each dimension, but different groups of people approach a situation with a cultural preference for one side or the other. It is the tension between the extremes of the continuum that gives us energy for the resolution or the reconciliation of the cultural dilemma. Dilemmas are shared, while the approaches are cultural. The seven dimensions are to be viewed as seven dilemmas that are to be reconciled on a continual basis: Universalism versus Particularism (What is more important, the rules or exceptions based on relationships?); Individualism versus Communitarianism (Do we function in a group or as individuals?); Neutral versus Affective (How do we express our emotions?); Specific versus Diffuse (How separate do we keep our private and working lives?); Achievement versus Ascription (Do we have to prove ourselves to receive status, or is it given to us?); Past, present, future (Do we focus on our heritage, the present day or what will come tomorrow?); Internal versus External control (Do we control our environment, or are we controlled by it?). Business culture: We define four types of corporate culture, which are closely related to the national differences described in earlier chapters: the Eiffel Tower culture, the Guided Missile culture, the Incubator culture and the Family culture. International and Transnational Management: In concluding this course we discuss operating in the international arena, for which we distinguish four approaches that are being used: the Multi Local Approach, The Global Approach, the Multi National Approach and the Transnational Approaches. The characteristics of these approaches will be explained and demonstrated.

Teaching model
Research shows when knowledge exclusively is transferred bij a classroom training, only 5% of the knowledge has a lasting impact. Our digital learning system and our courses are designed to take you through different ways of knowledge with a very high impact.
Digital learning system
Our digital learning system works on any PC, tablet or Smartphone with an internet connection. We recommend a high-bandwidth connection such as cable. It is particularly easy to use. Each training begins with a short video showing the functioning and controling of our system.
Technical support
We offer you free technical support via our learning system integrated support button. We aim to answer your question within two week days. At selected trainings you will be guided by our built-in simulator. We offer no content-related support.
